Taxes were kind to me this year, so I could afford a new lens for my camera. After unpacking it, I put it on the camera and rushed to the youngsters of P. furcatus that were only 2 or 3 weeks old. I was really happy with the results. Definitely a good lens: Tamron AF 90 / 2,8 Di VC USD Macro 1:1. I never knew there is so much to see at these tiny little fry!

Were you able to autofocus on the fry or was that several manual focus shots and then finally got one in focus? At 1:1 it really is a challenge for either the AF or focusing yourself. Just breathing puts something that small out of focus! Very nice

Thanks guys! I put the fry in a transparent plastic container with a small amount of water so the fish couldn't swim too much up and down. This way the focus range was small. The plastic container was on a grey table. Then I put the camera on manual focus and stopped breathing. I think I took about 10-15 shots and these were the results. In photoshop I removed the irregularities on the grey background. Oh, and I have a separate second flashlight. That also helps a lot. Something else about this forum: Where can I find the settings to get e-mail when someone responds to topics? I can't find it...

I like how you put that Hans. A whole new world indeed. I like this forum set up, has lots of fun things to make life easier than we are used to. Just takes a little time to explore.

The breeding group is doing very well. I've got some 40 eggs that are about to hatch and still another 20-30 that need more days. Time to fill some tanks with water!

Hey Mark. That material is synthetic filter wool (is that the English expression?). It prevents the eggs from laying in the rubbish on the bottom and getting polluted. At least, that is the idea...
